The Henry County Sheriff's Office K-9 program was taken out of service on August 1, 2002.  The K-9 program had provided assistance to many other areas of the Sheriff's Office including the Drug Enforcement Unit, missing persons, search and rescue, building searches and vehicle searches. K-9 duty requires specialized training for both the K-9 Deputy and the Handler.

The K-9 program helped generate over $200,000 collected in fines and court fees.  A combination of staffing changes and economics has caused the program to temporarily cease operation.  Hopefully the circumstances will change and we will be able to field a K-9 unit again in the near future.

Above are pictures of the two K-9 Deputies that have served Henry County, Zeke and Riley, along with Deputy Lee Thompson.  Zeke was retired from active duty on June 1, 1998 and succumbed to an extended illness on May 12, 2001.  Riley has also been retired from active duty and continues to live with Deputy Thompson.
