Hit and Run Accident in Kewanee

(March 18) The Kewanee Police Department is continuing to investigate an incident that was reported on Monday, March 16, 2009 shortly after 8:00 PM. A subject exited the Barnhouse Restaurant without paying and an employee was attempting to make contact with the subject. The employee was struck by the subject's car and was dragged across the parking lot, suffering serious injuries.

Kewanee Police have identified the suspect in this incident as Gilbert A. Simmons, Jr. of Kewanee, pictured at left in a photo from December of 2008. Simmons is a white male, 28 years old, 5 ft 9 inches tall and 245 lbs with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last known to be living in the Kewanee area.

At the time of the incident the suspect's vehicle left the parking lot southbound on Prospect Place and then turned east onto E. Prospect St. The vehicle has since been located and is being processed by police crime scene technicians.

Simmons has been named in an arrest warrant issued March 18, 2009 in Henry County Court for multiple offenses including Failure to Report an Accident Involving Personal Injury or Death and Aggravated Battery.
